The Bank of Montreal or simply BMO was founded in the beginning of the 19th century in Montreal, Quebec. BMO is Schedule I Domestic Chartered Bank headquartered in Toronto. The bank fulfilled the role of Canadian central bank until the creation of the Bank of Canada in 1935. During the 1920-1940 period BMO repeatedly traded the top Canadian bank position with Royal Bank of Canada.

BMO offer a wide range of banking services aimed at personal, corporate, commercial, and institutional clients in Canada and US. BMO Financial Group services its US clients through its subsidiary Harris Bank, based in Chicago. BMO is traded on both TSX and NYSE stock exchanges.
